Overview

A powerful journey into Da Nang’s wild peninsula - home of the endangered red-shanked douc and a frontline of marine protection.

The Sơn Trà Peninsula is a rare coastal rainforest rising steeply from the ocean - a sanctuary for wildlife and a shield that protects Da Nang from storms. But its beauty is fragile, threatened by deforestation, plastic pollution from the sea, and climate change.
This tour brings you into the heart of Son Tra's conservation efforts:
• A guided jungle walk with forest rangers
• A hands-on marine debris research activity
• A heartfelt visit to a storm-affected fishing community
This is not a sightseeing trip - it is a thoughtful, meaningful, eye-opening immersion into environmental stewardship.

Program schedule

🕚 08:00 - Pick-up & scenic drive along Sơn Trà ridge road
🚙 The road winds along cliffs overlooking the emerald-blue sea. As you ascend, your guide shares the history of Sơn Trà - from wartime lookout point to biodiversity hotspot with over 1,000 species.

🕚 08:45 - Conservation Jungle Walk (1.5-2 hours)
🌳 Led by a forest ranger, you follow narrow trails shaded by ancient tropical trees.
🐒 Along the way, you may spot:
🔸 the striking red-shanked douc langur
🔸 black squirrels jumping across branches
          🔸 sunbirds and hornbills
🔸 wild orchids growing along mossy trunks
🚫 Your ranger explains the constant threats faced by wildlife: poaching, habitat loss, and invasive species - and how local communities are fighting back.

🕚 11:00 - Picnic Lunch at a Cliffside Viewpoint
🌊 Enjoy a simple Vietnamese picnic with million-dollar views over Da Nang Bay.
🏞️ The combination of fresh air, jungle breeze, and ocean below is unforgettable.

🕚 12:30 - Hands-on Marine Debris Sorting Workshop (Scientific Activity)
♻️ With a team of young conservation volunteers, you spend time sorting waste previously collected from the coastline.
👩‍🦱 This scientific approach helps track:
          🔹 types of plastic
          🔹 origins of debris
          🔹 seasonal waste patterns
          🔹 microplastics levels
📁 Data from these workshops is submitted to environmental NGOs and helps shape local policy.
🌍 Guests love understanding “where the trash comes from” - because most of it floats in from regional ocean currents, not from Da Nang itself.

🕚 14:00 - Visit a Storm-Affected Fishing Hamlet
👨‍👩‍👧 Meet families whose homes stand just meters from the sea.
🎎 Their stories reflect the resilience of Vietnam’s coastal communities:
          📍 boats destroyed during typhoons
📍 nets lost in rough seas
          📍 income interrupted for weeks
📍 children still walking to school despite difficult conditions
🧰 You’ll deliver small, carefully selected support kits (rice, noodles, cooking oil, school stationery).

🕚 15:00 - Return to Hotel
❤️ A tour that stays with you long after you leave Da Nang.
