Profile
Located close to the Cathedral, the Basilica di San Lorenzo was built to the design of the powerful Medici family that ruled Florence for many years during the Renaissance. Although not as grand and decorative as the Cathedral, this church is still an impressive building with its huge dome and characteristic terracotta tiled roof.
The interior of the church is filled with beautiful works of art and decoration including a gilded and white ceiling and a wonderfully decorated domed interior. Many frescoes and sculptures frame the dome and create an interesting mix of patterns and colors.
Furthermore, a lot of Medici families are buried here and their tombs inside the chapel are quite elaborate.
