Brewers in the mid-16th century were encouraged to build beer cellars next to the Isar River to store and keep their beer cool in the summer, hence the beer garden. Located right in Prezlauer Berg, Berlin's oldest beer garden has been attracting beer drinkers since the 1850s. Prater survived two world wars with the GDR and its walls, rocks and trees are steeped in history. Prater is more of a Munich than a Berlin, it draws crowds with its high-quality beer, hot dogs and pretzel pretzels.
