Profile
Both Ganeshpuri and Vajreshwari towns are famous for their ancient temples and scenic spots. Unique to this twin town are the hot springs that are rich in sulfur and are said to have medicinal value. There are more than 21 hot springs around these towns and neighboring villages.
Once a heavily forested land inhabited by several tribal communities, Ganeshpuri has been turned into a spiritual center by the spiritual leader, Nityanand Swami. This place has a temple of Lord Shiva, a few natural hot springs and several other temples. Of the many hot springs, a few are open to the public with bathhouses built around them.
The twin town of Vajreshwari has the rather important Vajreshwari temple. It is dedicated to goddess Vajreshwari who is the incarnation of Goddess Parvati. The temple was built by the Peshwas after retaking Fort Vasai from the Portuguese. It is located in the foothills of Mandakini, formed from a volcanic eruption. This also explains the many mineral-rich springs in the area. Along with the goddess Vajreshwari temple, there are also temples to the goddess Renuka and Kalika, in the vicinity. The temple has a 360-degree view of the beautiful surroundings with sprawling greenery.
The towns of Ganeshpuri and Vajreshwari can be visited all year round, however these places become especially picturesque during and after the monsoon. Usually, a lot of tourists visit the twin town between October and March.
