Profile
The heart of Bahnhofstrasse, Paradeplatz at the intersection of Lake Zurich, Old Town and Bahnhofstrasse is known worldwide as a financial centre. The square is the center of Bahnhofstrasse and an important tram junction. In the 17th century, it was called “Säumärt” (pig market) due to a regular livestock market. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was renamed “Neumarkt” (New Market) due to strong business development, and eventually changed to the “Paradeplatz” of today 50 years later.
Paradeplatz Square has become famous as the most important and largest financial transaction place in Switzerland since the time when major Swiss banks such as UBS, Credit Suisse,... established their main offices here. Alternatively, guests can walk to the Old Town, Lake Zürich and Bahnhofstrasse from Paradeplatz. An old Swiss candy branch Sprüngli is also located in the square, where you can buy the famous "Luxemburgerli".
