Koumiss
For a long time, Kazakhs have a tradition of drinking koumiss (fermented mare's milk). This is a sour milky drink, made by adding yeast cultured to mare's milk, with an alcohol content of about 3%. To make this special drink, fresh horse or camel milk is preserved in an incubator made of a special leather, yeast is added, and the mixture is stirred continuously, then heated and preserved in three or four days before use. Koumiss has a white color and delicious taste that is likened to a special, elaborately distilled wine. For local people, koumiss helps better vision, stronger legs and especially a fresher and more refreshing soul.
