Profile
Galleria Borghese, also known in English as Borghese Gallery, is located in Villa Borghese, a beautiful and elegant villa. This is one of the most famous art museums in the world. The building gardens are also a popular attraction and the third largest park in Rome.
The gallery has an important part of the collection started by Cardinal Scipione Borghese (grandson of Pope Paul V), between 1576 and 1633.
As well as an avid art collector of Caravaggio works, the Cardinal was Bernini's first sponsor. Therefore, the museum counts with an extensive collection of both artists.
The exhibits are found on the bottom floor of the castle. The first floor contains artworks by famous artists such as Tiziano, Raphael, Caravaggio, Rubens and Botticelli.
The ground floor is dedicated to classical antiquities from the first to third centuries AD. This part of the museum is most surprising with its fascinating mosaics and impressive sculptures, as well as perfectly preserved frescoes that decorate the villa on the walls and ceilings.
Sculptures by Bernini and Canovas found in each hall make a visit to this museum even more special.
Galleria Borghese is one of the best museums in the world. It will amaze visitors of all ages and making space in your itinerary to visit it is a sure thing.
Since this museum is so popular, reservations are required and only those with prepaid admission tickets are allowed in. Bookings can be made online or by phone. We recommend booking a few days in advance to ensure tickets aren't sold out.
