Phung Hung ancient house was built around the beginning of the 19th century. The owner of the house is a Vietnamese businessman, he named the house Phung Hung with the wish that the family business will always flourish. , thrive. At that time, this place was both a residence and a shop selling items such as cinnamon, pepper, salt, silk, porcelain, glass, ... of the family. Currently, Phung Hung ancient house is owned by descendants of the 8th generation, family members who will guide and explain to visitors.

Like most of the merchant houses in Hoi An at that time, the Phung Hung ancient house was also built in a tubular shape with a wide façade meaning opening the door to welcome fortune into the house. The main building materials used are rare wood, so, after a long time, the old house still retains almost the integrity of the original structure.

The architectural features inside Phung Hung ancient house are a mixture of three different styles including Vietnam, China and Japan. The balconies, main doors and windows have a Chinese style; the large roof in the nave roofed in four directions is a common feature in Edo period Japanese architecture; The system of pillars and wooden ribs in the front and back compartments was built according to the ancient Vietnamese culture.

The affluence of the owner's family is shown through the small details inside the house. Typically, the horizontal and vertical bars supporting the eaves are meticulously carved with carp. The carp has long been a symbol of prosperity and good luck in many cultures. Besides, when visiting Phung Hung ancient house, visitors can also see many carvings with decorative patterns on wood made by artisans of Kim Bong carpentry village. Upstairs, in the family's worship room, the altar of the Holy Mother is delicately carved, the smoke of incense does not stop with the belief that the Holy Mother will always bless the family.

Today, a part of Phung Hung's ancient house is a sewing and embroidery factory of the family. Visitors can visit and shop for souvenirs here.

On June 29, 1993, the old house was granted the National level of historical - cultural relic. Phung Hung ancient house is also a valuable and authentic source of documents on the art and lifestyle of the ancient Hoi An merchant class.
