Apfelwein Festival

“Cider was first made in Frankfurt and it has long been a traditional drink for locals. Every August, people flock to Frankfurt to attend a festival honoring this familiar drink.”

Apfelwein is a cider made from fermented apple juice, first produced in Frankfurt and poured from blue-gray ceramic vessels called bembels into diamond-patterned cups. The cider culture has played an important role in Frankfurt's social life hundreds of years ago. Every year in August, locals and tourists gather in the square at Rossmarkt to celebrate the existence of the cider that everyone loves.

Festivalgoers will find an excellent selection of traditional cider accompanied by local produce and folk entertainment from the Hesse region. Apfelwein is often enjoyed with Handkäs' mit Musik (cheese marinated with vinegar and onions) and Frankfurt "green sauce" (traditional green sauce made from seven local herbs). The festival is always bustling and full of life with local music as the backdrop for the perfect space for everyone to enjoy a relaxed, social holiday.
