Guru Purab in Delhi is an important Sikh festival. The festival is held to honor the birthday of Guru Nanak, the first of the ten Sikhs. Guru Purab Festival is also known as 'Guru Nanak Jayanti'.

India is a land of diversity and abundance. Different religions and cultures form the rich tapestry of this land. Sikhs can be found in India. Apart from Guru Nanak Jayanti, Sikhs honor other Guru Purabs. These days commemorate the birth or martyrdom of other Sikh masters such as Guru Gobind Singh, Guru Tegh Bahadur, Guru Ram Das, Guru Angad Dev and Guru Har Kishan.

Guru Nanak is the leader of Sikhism who enlightens people with his teachings and teachings. The festival celebrating his birth is Guru Purab, also known as 'Prakash Utsav'. Celebrations begin three weeks before the main event. Processions held during the festival which locals call 'Nagar Kirtans' are paraded through the streets of the city. The holy book, 'Guru Granth Sahib' is recited in the gurudwaras; This recitation is called the Akhand path. Festival participants reciting poetry continues for three days and ends on the last day of the event.

On the main day of the event, the holy book is decorated with flowers to celebrate the solemnity. A lunch special, called 'langar', is served to devotees as well as all passers-by. Everyone, regardless of class or culture, is invited to participate in this special dish. This act reinforces Guru Nanak's basic secular teachings of loving one another. The gurudwaras in Delhi are decorated with lights, which are symbols of 'enlightenment'.
