Profile
Eusebi Guell, a wealthy capitalist who was also a regular client of Gaudi, commissioned him to design this castle in 1888. Guell's family lived here until his death and then the building was requisitioned by the police. to torture political prisoners during the Civil War.
In front of the castle is a high arched parabolic gate and an iron door decorated with elaborate metal patterns. The carriage could pass through the archway into the courtyard or the great hall. From here, horses will be dropped into the basement and people will go up to the living room area. The main hall is 3 stories high with an arched structure and a dome in the center giving visitors the feeling of visiting a Gothic church. A typical feature inside the building is the central room used to receive guests. High above the walls are small windows so that the owner of the building can secretly see outside guests. Lanterns are hung from holes above the main room wall. There is also an organ music room during tour hours.
In Gaudi's style, the building is designed and decorated with a touch of Gothic, Islamic and Art-nouveau architecture. The castle is filled with colour, angles, stained glass, smooth stone, parabolic archways, mosaics, frescoes and domes.
