Bat Trang pottery village was formed in the 14th or 15th century. However, according to villagers, perhaps the village appeared earlier. There are always two stories related to the origin of the village. One of these tells that during the Ly dynasty, in 1100, when the country was in the early stages of independence and development, there were 3 scholars who went to China after a porcelain trip to China to bring with them the ceramic craft they had learned there. about Vietnam and teach the people of Bat Trang. Another story, the village's history dates back to the 10th century, when King Ly Cong Uan moved the capital to Thang Long. With the formation and development of the capital, many entrepreneurs and craftsmen from many regions came here to set up and trade. In Bat Trang pottery village, there is a lot of white clay, so many potters, including the Nguyen Ninh Trang family, have come here to build kilns. Accordingly, Bat Trang has gradually changed from an ordinary ceramic village to a famous ceramic center until now. Over time, the village's products have evolved and become known for the best quality, designs and glazes, both at home and abroad.

Bat Trang ceramic products are divided into 3 types based on the purpose of use.

Crockery: including plates, bowls, teapots, kettles, wine vases, flower vases, vases, jars... The difference is that they are thicker than Chinese ones.

Worship items: including lamps, candle holders, incense burners, altar boxes, swords... These are valuable items for collectors because they are engraved with the year of manufacture, the name of the maker and the potter.

Decorative objects: models of houses, altars, statues and architectural fixtures. A special feature is the variety of decorative patterns on the product. Thanks to its long history and development, the village's works have been accumulated with many different distinctive designs. Another thing that distinguishes them is the high quality glaze, the colors are diverse such as blue, brown, white, moss green in both broken glaze and fused glaze.

Today, Bat Trang is very famous, attracting a large number of tourists every year to visit and buy ceramics. Bat Trang pottery village has become a familiar destination for young people in Hanoi (university or high school students) to visit during weekends. This place has also become popular with foreign tourists who want to understand more about the historical and traditional value in each handicraft product.
