Kyz Kuu-A sport imbued with nomadic culture

Literally translated as “chasing girls”, Kyz kuu is a traditional horse-riding game enjoyed by many young Kazakhs. This sport has its roots in the nomadic tradition, demonstrating the skillful and ingenious equestrian abilities of nomadic warriors. Unlike a typical horse race, the reward for the winner can be a genuine love from beautiful girls or even a happy marriage later on.

Kazakhstan is famous for its nomadic culture dating back several hundred years. At that time, most of the activities took place on horseback and Kyz Kuu was born. The sport is formed on the real situations of everyday life. The rules are very simple. A young, single man in traditional Kazakh dress rides on horseback waiting at the starting line when a girl passes by from behind. The boy has to chase and try to catch her before reaching the finish line. If successful, the boy will kiss the girl, and vice versa, if it fails, the girl will chase the boy back to the starting line and beat him with a whip.

This is an extremely interesting game, representing the typical traditional nomadic culture, preserved and popular to this day. It shows the heroic mettle and a burning love of young men and women. Today, young people still see this as an ancient traditional custom or simply a game that contributes to the sublimation of their dating. And this is definitely a way to find your other half, instead of spending hours on dating apps.

Kyz Kuu competitions are often held on the steppes during festive occasions, such as major holidays and weddings. This is a great platform for young men who want to impress the opposite sex. But don't worry even if you lose, the girl can change her mind if she feels you have courage and high intentions.
