Perched on a cliff on the coast of Alabaster, Normandy, France, this extraordinary garden overlooks the famous La Porte d'Aval archway that appeared in Claude Monet's paintings. It's no wonder that French actress Madame Thébault chose this place as a garden in 1905, with rare orchids and an artistic space.
Les Jardins d'Etretat was recently renovated and expanded by renowned landscape architect Alexandre Grivko. He has created more unique clusters of pruned trees and art installations on an area of nearly 15,000 m2.
Alexandre turned the garden into an experimental place, combining art, technology, people and nature. Importantly, he appreciated the historical details, biodiversity and natural beauty of the local ecosystem.
Les Jardins d'Etretat consists of 7 zones, distributed along a slope towards the sea. Now, the garden has 150,000 different trees, creating a verdant or colorful scene depending on the time of year.
One of the standout pieces here is the Jardin Émotions, inspired by Queen Marie Antoinette's first oyster farm in France. The bushes are shaped like a shell, between which are faces with different states and emotions.
Besides, other works and selected layers of trees also give visitors a multi-layered experience in each area. Walking along the garden path, you will feel like you are lost in Alice's wonderland with birdsong, wind blowing, ocean waves forming a wonderful harmony.
Scattered throughout the year, events and exhibitions of painting and sculpture are held in the garden. On site, a small eatery serves drinks and cakes to guests.
