Profile
Built during the reign of King Rama VI, and just a short distance from the town centre, Hua Hin station and the adjacent royal lounge have undeniable appeal. The wooden buildings are painted in bright colors according to Thai ideas and designs that somehow give them a 'Victorian' feel.
The story of Hua Hin's birth as a royal seaside getaway town would be incomplete without a mention of this historic station. Back in the early days, when there was no road to this idyllic beach town, taking the train was a new and exciting option to get from Bangkok to Hua Hin instead of going by boat.
With a train station and a north-south railway connecting Bangkok all the way to Singapore in 1921, the town was gradually built around this station. Expatriate Europeans will travel from Penang and Singapore to enjoy a seaside vacation in Hua Hin. A road has been built from the train station to the beach where the town's first luxury hotel is located - Hua Hin Siam Hotel. The hotel, designed by Italian architect A Rigazzi and operated by Royal Siamese Railway (RSR), has two floors and boasts elegant colonial architecture with patios on either side. . Today, it has become part of Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin and Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa. By 1926, Hua Hin was pretty much built into a popular seaside town, complete with a train station, luxury hotels, two royal palaces (Klai Kang Won and Maruekhathaiyawan) and a courtyard 9 hole golf (built in 1921).
Today, the train station has become a popular tourist attraction. Its ancient architectural style, the intersection of East and West, stands in stark contrast to the modern hotel buildings and open-air malls that have become an integral part of 21st-century Hua Hin.
Relive Hua Hin's glorious past by combining your visit to the train station with Maruekhathaiyawan Palace, also designed in a similar style with open verandas, covered boardwalks and Beautiful decorative detail. It is possible to go back in time by taking the train from Bangkok to Hua Hin, a journey that takes about four hours compared to 2.5 hours by car, it will be an enjoyable trip for you.
Hua Hin Railway Station is located on Prapokklao Road in central Hua Hin. From Phetkasem Road, take Soi 76 to get there. The station is about 5 to 10 minutes walk from Hua Hin night market. Although slower than a car or bus, the train from Bangkok is very affordable and offers an opportunity to see the sights along the way. The station can be visited any day of the year. The Royal Lounge is not open to the public.
