About the Late Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Pham Hung

Pham Hung, born Pham Van Thien in 1912 in Long Ho Village, Chau Thanh District (now Long Phuoc Commune, Long Ho District, Vinh Long), was born into a traditional farming family. From a young age, he showed a strong patriotic spirit and a commitment to the revolutionary cause. He participated primary school in Vinh Long and secondary school in My Tho. Despite the risk of assimilation under the education system at the time, Pham Hung remained steadfast and dedicated himself to the struggle for national liberation.

In 1930, Pham Hung joined the Indochinese Communist Party and quickly became the Secretary of the school party branch, participating in revolutionary activities at the commune, district, and provincial levels. He was also involved in protests and helped punish the local tyrant Dang Van Trau. Due to his active participation in the movement, he was arrested and imprisoned by the French and later by the Americans. Initially sentenced to death, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment thanks to international support, and he was sent to Con Dao Prison.

After the August Revolution, Pham Hung returned to the mainland and continued to serve in key positions, including Secretary of the Southern Regional Party Committee and Political Commissar of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign Headquarters. After 1975, he held high-level government roles such as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Council of Ministers. He passed away in March 1988, leaving behind a legacy of immense contributions to the nation.

To honor his sacrifices, the people of Vinh Long built the Pham Hung Memorial Temple, a place where citizens come to pay their respects and remember this national hero.

The Pham Hung Memorial Temple was built in 2000 and completed in 2004, marking the 92nd anniversary of the late Chairman's birth.
