Nestled in the northwest corner behind Cung Diên Thọ, this site is not only an architectural masterpiece but also a keeper of numerous historical tales from the Nguyễn Dynasty. Let's take a stroll through the tranquil atmosphere of this palace and discover the fascinating stories that await.

A Fascinating Historical Journey

Truong Sanh Palace was initially constructed in 1821 during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang, originally named Truong Ninh Palace, as a beautiful garden. The architecture of the palace is designed in a trident shape, featuring a main hall in the center, a front hall, and a rear pavilion, surrounded by various auxiliary structures. In 1846, under the reign of Emperor Thieu Tri, the palace underwent a significant renovation, enhancing its scale and transforming its architectural layout into a royal “V” shape, presenting a new and impressive appearance.

The most notable structures within the palace include the Dien Tho Khang, the Toa Ngu Dai Dong Duong, and the lầu Van Phuc, all interconnected by a seamless corridor system. Surrounding the palace are other structures such as Phuong Mon and several artificial hills named Bao Son, Kinh Ngu, and Ho Ton, creating a space that is both romantic and majestic.

An Artistic Space and a Place of Memories

Initially, Truong Ninh Palace was not only a recreational area for the Nguyen kings but also a place where they invited their mothers to enjoy the beauty of nature. By the end of the dynasty, it became the residence of several empress dowagers, including Empress Lệ Thiên, Empress Tu Minh, and Empress Tien Cung. Each had their unique stories tied to this palace.

In 1923, Emperor Khai Dinh decided to restore and rename it Truong Sanh Palace, adding two vehicle storage buildings near the entrance. These changes enriched the history of the palace, although it could not escape the wear and tear of time.

Unique Cultural Values

Truong Sanh Palace is not just a historical monument; it embodies the invaluable cultural heritage of the Nguyen Dynasty. Here, visitors can not only admire the architecture but also explore fascinating stories and the rituals and customs of the ancient court.
