During the Japanese colonial period, the area was inhabited by many resistance militia groups. The Japanese government repeatedly sent troops to search and accidentally discovered some hot springs hidden among the mountains. They immediately sent experts to study and found a lot of minerals in the water, these minerals are especially good for healing and healing. The news quickly spread and Guanziling Hot Spring became a popular tourist attraction, and Guanziling was also honored as "Taiwan's No. 1 Hot Spring" in 1920.

Hot Springs Park is the best-preserved vast mountain forest in Tainan, and is also the nature reserve that attracts the most tourists. Guanziling's wild beauty is also reflected in a very famous song written more than 50 years ago "Love Guanziling". Inside the park, there are many interesting attractions such as Biyun temple, Thuy Hoa cave, mineral springs, if you are active and want to explore more deeply, you can spend the whole day climbing to the top of Dadong (Dai Dong), Hutou Peak (Tiger Head),… If you don't have much time, the following 3 points are the 3 spots you should prioritize to visit:

Hot waterfall:

Guanziling Hot Spring is located on the top of Mount Zhentou. At the end of the 19th century, this was the living area of the Pingpu tribe, also a refuge for the liberation army. When the Japanese searched the area, they discovered natural hot springs flowing from the cliffs - what later became the most famous hot spring area in southern Taiwan. In addition, there is also a mineral mud bathing area, the muddy water here is opaque gray, with a bitter taste due to minerals, flowing from the cave. The smoke rising from the hot water mixes with the natural gas to create a beautiful misty scene.

Huoshan Biyun Temple (Temple of Hoa Son Bich Van):

Biyun Temple is located halfway up Zhentou Peak, has an impressive architecture by the combination of Minnan and Japanese architecture. Due to the surrounding natural gas emanating from the cliffs, at first glance, the temple looks like it is located on top of a mountain halfway in the middle of the clouds, very magical, so the temple is also full name Huoshan Biyun (Fire). Son Bich Van). Legend has it that more than 300 years ago, a feng shui master from Fujian brought along a statue of Mother Guanyin and constantly searched for a place to put the statue to build a temple. When he came to the Zhentou mountain area, he felt the sacredness of feng shui here and decided to build a temple here. The temple was burned twice during the war and has been restored and preserved by the local government. In 1997, the temple was honored as one of the three scenic spots of Tainan.

Shuihou Cave (Water Fire Cave):

Thuy Hoa Cave is one of the 7 natural wonders of Tainan and was voted in the top 8 must-visit spots when coming to Tainan. The name of the cave partly explains the strange phenomenon of the cave: water flows out of the cave and at the same time there is a fire that burns continuously right in the cave. Due to Taiwan's terrain with many fractures, the methanol gas located below these cracks continuously evaporates to form gas bubbles, which will ignite when heated at the mouth of the cave, plus steam from flowing water. let the fire burn forever.

Guanziling is now one of Tainan's very well-preserved parks. The main roads are mostly renovated with wooden walkways to avoid indiscriminate trampling on the grass. To visit the above 3 points you need a full day, but it is a totally worth it.
