Linh Ung Pagoda Bai But, located in Bai But, Son Tra, Da Nang, is one of the three pagodas named Linh Ung in the city. All three pagodas are situated in prime locations, forming a sacred "triangle" The other two pagodas are Linh Ung Non Nuoc on Thuy Son mountain and Linh Ung Ba Na on the top of Ba Na mountain.
Linh Ung Pagoda Bai But is located on Son Tra Peninsula in Son Tra District, Da Nang, under the abbot Thich Thien Nguyen. With picturesque scenery and fresh air, this place has become an ideal destination for visitors who want to explore natural and spiritual beauty.
Construction Process
Linh Ung Pagoda Bai But was started on June 19, 2004 (lunar calendar) and completed on July 30, 2010. It is the largest and newest of the three Linh Ung Pagodas in Da Nang. With continuous development, the pagoda still builds more new items.
Statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva
The highlight of the pagoda is the tallest statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in Vietnam, reaching a height of 67 meters. The statue stands against the mountain, facing the sea, with kind eyes looking down and holding a vase of camellia water, as if sprinkling peace for the fishermen. The statue has 17 floors inside, each with an altar, totaling 21 Buddha statues, creating a unique spiritual experience for visitors.
Architecture and Space
Linh Ung Pagoda Bai But is built on a 12-hectare land, combining modern and traditional Asian architecture. The main hall of the pagoda is solemn with the statues of Shakyamuni Buddha, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, and 18 Arhats, creating a tranquil space suitable for those who love personal travel and seek peace.
Legend and Name
Son Tra is not only famous for its beauty but also preserves the legend of the Buddha statue on the sand. During King Minh Mang's reign, fishermen discovered the Buddha statue and set up a shrine. Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva saved the people here, so this place is called Bai But, or "Buddha's realm in the human world."
