Zelyony Bazaar is located at the intersection of Zenkov and Jybek Joly streets, next to Paniflov park. You can come here to shop or simply experience the daily activities of the locals. The Green Market amazes some visitors with its abundance of goods and colorful oriental atmosphere.

Zelyony Bazaar is considered as an indispensable place to visit in the journey to discover Almaty because of the historical value hidden behind its bustle and excitement. The first market appeared on the present site more than 100 years ago. In 1875, at the suggestion of Rafikov, a highly influential and successful merchant from Semipalatinsk, the government built a Guest area. Yard to serve the needs of trading and exchanging goods of major merchants in the region. Later, this place was expanded and developed into a large market with many stalls specializing in typical items, bringing many options to customers such as food, fresh fruits, vegetables and grains. The stalls are filled with raw materials, household items and more

In 1887, the city was devastated by a violent earthquake. However, the Guest Yard area remained untouched and was used by the city government to organize markets focusing on one commodity: like dry food, vegetables and livestock. However, after the revolution, merchants in the Guest Yard area also faced difficulties, as private commerce was discouraged and strongly suppressed.

In 1927, the Guest Yard area was rebuilt and had a new name - Central Farmers Market. In the 40s, markets were just wooden stalls in the form of tents, and trading lasted only from morning to noon. During the war, prices rose rapidly and prices here skyrocketed, not everyone could afford luxury items here.

By the 70s, the wooden stalls were dismantled and a covered building in the Soviet tectonic style was born. The Green Market has been reborn and has its current appearance. The main architect of the project is Mark Pavlov. The market has a maximum capacity of 800 stalls and is also considered quite carefully for safety and seismic tolerance. At that time, it was one of the most modern technology markets.

Today Zelyony Bazaar-Green market is a famous place, attracting tourists by the unique features of an oriental bazaar along with the opportunity to shop for different kinds of confectionery and souvenirs, exchanges with kind, welcoming vendors as well as learning more about the daily lives of the Kazakhs.
