It is packed with bars, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, shops, hotels, pachinko bakeries, and love hotels. Susukino has something of the vibrant atmosphere of Osaka's Dotonbori district. This is also the location of the red light district in Sapporo with many "adult entertainment" facilities.
The heart of the main street is Susukino Crossing, located at the intersection of Sapporo Ekimae Street and Tsukisamu Street. This intersection is famous for the bright lights of many neon signs, including the famous Nikka Whiskey sign on the Susukino building or the unique Noria Ferris wheel built on the top of the Norbesa building. When night falls, they are brightly lit with changing colorful lights that are very prominent and attractive. This is a popular check-in photo spot for tourists when coming here to visit.
Susukino is also a shopping paradise, home to Tanukikoji Shopping Mall and Pole Town Underground Shopping District located between Odori Subway Station to the north and Susukino Subway Station to the south. You can freely shop at stores like Mega Don Quijote, Sapporo Parco department store and Mitsukoshi department store.
Susukino is also quite a famous place to enjoy Sapporo's cuisine. It is estimated that there are more than 4,000 bars and restaurants in Susukino serving fresh seafood, sushi or grilled lamb "Genghis Khan". Another must-see for Ramen lovers is Ramen Yokocho, a narrow lane lined with shops serving Sapporo's famous ramen.
Susukino is one of the three main venues for the annual February Sapporo Snow Festival. This week-long festival, and during this time, you can see about 60 finely carved large and small ice sculptures along the streets of Susukino.
