Under Japanese colonial rule, Taichung was the center of literary activities in Taiwan. This is the stronghold of many famous literary organizations in the country. After World War II, nationalist literary organizations flourished, especially in Taichung. Many cultural and literary events took place during this period, proving Taichung's important role as a center of literary development in Taiwan. Since then, Taichung has served as a famous cultural city in the country.
The Taichung Literature Museum used to be a police precinct, built in 1932 during the Japanese colonial era. In 2009, in an effort to preserve buildings of historical significance, clearly showing the spirit and background of the past, along with the flow and development of literature in the Taichung area, encouraging the By the work of local authors, the buildings have been recognized as historical monuments by the Taichung Municipal Government Cultural Bureau. In April 2010, the buildings were renovated and turned into the Taichung Literature Museum to honor the literary contribution and promote literature in Taiwan to visitors from all over the world. The museum officially opened to visitors on August 26, 2016.
The Taichung Literature Museum consists of six buildings, which are used for regular exhibitions, themed exhibitions, children's literature, seminars and presentations, thematic and administrative dining areas. Each building is mainly used for exhibition, research, study, and promotion of Taichung literature. With interactive equipment and diverse and lively exhibitions, the Museum aims to serve literary education and cultural entertainment. The beauty of the traditional architecture and the historical atmosphere have made the Museum a new attraction for sightseeing tours to learn about the history and culture that make up a Taiwanese city. The museum is open from 10.00 AM to 05.00 PM (weekdays except Monday), admission is free. From Taichung city center, you can take bus number 26, 99, 128 and get off at NETCUT Minsheng Campus stop, walk on Minsheng Road, turn left to Lequn Road then walk for about 5 minutes to reach Museum.
