Tam Dong Oc Village (Sam Tung Uk) is a 200-year-old Hakka village built by the Chans family in 1786. After many restorations, it was restored in 1987 and opened to the public. with the name Sam Tung UK Museum or Tam Dong Oc Museum. Sam Tung Uk Village was recognized as a historical site in 1981 and offers the most authentic insight into the way of life of rural people in the New Territories back in the day.

Today's Sam Tung Uk Museum was established in the Qing Dynasty (1786), Sam Tung UK is in fact a Hakka village built by the Chans (陳氏) clan from Quang Nam. East and South China. Around the mid-18th century, the Chans family settled in Tuyen Loan (Tsuen Wan), where they cleared the coastal land for farming and Sam Tung UK was founded by Chan Yam-shing – a patriarch of the town. ethnicity.

Since the Hakka are immigrants with different cultures and customs, they must unite and defend themselves. Because of this, they built surrounding walls to protect the village from the eyes and enemies of pirates and other possible attacks. From the time of Chan Yam Shing, the inside of the village was built with three horizontal rows of houses – a model of Chinese architecture, and was later expanded by his descendants.

Sam Tung UK was forgotten in the 1980s and then declared a historical site in March 1981. That's why the Hong Kong government funded the restoration and turned it into a museum to service to the public. The restoration won the Asia Pacific Tourism Association's Pacific Heritage Award in 1990.

Occupying an area of 2,000 square meters, the village is arranged symmetrically like a chessboard with the entrance hall, assembly hall and ancestral church placed on the central axis to show respect for the ancestors.

With traditional architecture, simple design and use of traditional materials such as brick, wood and tile. All houses in Sam Tung UK are perched on a high stone pedestal to protect them from rain and flooding. Some houses also have a mezzanine, in order to make use of this space as a place to store crops and farm tools due to being high and less affected by humidity, Between the houses is a yard and a path for people to walk, at the same time creating ventilation and lighting conditions with natural light. This is especially important in Hong Kong's hot and humid subtropical climate.

In June 2016, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office established the "Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Center" in The Sam Tung UK Museum serves as a center for displaying and preserving these precious values, and this aims to increase public understanding and awareness of Intangible Cultural Heritage through activities. educational and promotional activities such as exhibitions and seminars.
