Almaty is known as the cultural and historical center of the beautiful and mysterious Kazakhstan. The Almaty City Historical Museum was established in 2002 under the management of the city government as a place to help domestic and foreign tourists understand more about the history of the city's formation and development. important period in the country's history.

The Almaty Museum was established in 2002, reusing the building of the former Vernenskiy orphanage. The history of the city of Almaty is recreated in 11 exhibition areas, allowing visitors to discover for themselves important historical periods and events that took place in the ancient capital such as “Ancient History of Almaty ”, “The Medieval History of Almaty”, “Origin of the Kazakh state system”, “Vernenskiy - the historical period of Almaty”, “Almaty in the twentieth century”….

In addition to the display function, the museum is also Almaty's leading scientific, cultural and educational research facility. Visitors will have the opportunity to understand more about the economic and cultural activities from the early settlement periods that took place in the city center and surrounding areas. There is also a separate exhibition area on the formation and development of the Kazakh state, the Verny period, the history of modern Almaty. The highlight of the museum is the complex that includes the archaeological park "Boraldai Saka Burial Mounds".

The museum has a collection that holds more than 35,000 works covering the city's 1000-year history. Among them are figurative artworks, collections of household items typical of different eras and cultures, representing the tribes and ethnic minorities of Kazakhstan. It regularly organizes international exhibitions, seminars, roundtables on historical issues and cultural heritage.

In 2016, a new exhibition area of ​​the museum was opened in a building built in 1892 by Paul Gourdet - a French architect, Verny's architect, who contributed greatly to the formed the appearance of the city in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The museum is open from 09.00 AM to 06.00 PM on weekdays except Saturday and Sunday. Entrance fee is 250 KZT/adult and KZT 150/child.
