The Hong Kong History Museum was established in July 1975, when the City Museum and the art gallery were separated. After many changes of location, today the museum is located in a modern building in the heart of the busy Tsim Sha Tsui area with a total area of more than 17,000 m2 .
In addition to the permanent exhibitions on Hong Kong's history and culture entitled "Hong Kong Story", the museum also regularly organizes themed exhibitions. Inside the museum are 8 galleries arranged on 2 floors of the building, bringing visitors back to the ancient memory regions of Hong Kong in particular and China in general such as: an overview of the natural environment , prehistoric Hong Kong, dynasties (from Han to Qing), Hong Kong and folklore values, opium war, birth and development of Hong Kong, Chinese occupation Japan, the development of modern urban during the British colonial period and when it was returned to China.
Visiting the museum, you will experience full emotions when you understand more about the origin and development of Port Thom. Through “Hong Kong Story” with more than 4,000 artifacts and more than 750 images, maps, and professionally invested sound and light effects, very clearly outline the natural environment. from the earliest days, and culture, history, tradition through the periods beginning with the Devonian period 400 million years ago and ending with the handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997.
One of the themes that are presented vividly and make most of the visitors deeply impressed is “Hong Kong under the British Colony”. In addition, the daily life scenes of a part of Chinese people when they first set foot in the promised land are reproduced very vividly, helping you understand more about the origin and development of this modern city. .

The museum is located next to the Tsim Sha Tsui commercial center and you can combine a visit to the Hong Kong Science Museum located right next door.
