Leidseplein is a lively square in the cultural center of Amsterdam that offers dining and entertainment opportunities with a wide range of theatres, cinemas, music, comedy and street performances.

Discover the many delights of watching Leidseplein's bustling crowds while enjoying food or simply a glass of water after a day of sightseeing. In the warmer months, the area is always packed with people congregating on the terraces of the restaurants and bars. Order a local beer and watch street artists perform. In winter, head to one of the many restaurants or clubs, or head to the ice rink with many hot food and drink stalls around to experience the outdoor atmosphere. If you're into architecture, take a stroll around Leidseplein to discover some interesting 17th-century buildings.

At Leidseplein, guests will have countless activities to entertain at night. Enjoy a Dutch meal or order American fast food before going to the movies or to a concert. Art lovers can head to De Balie, a cultural center serving film screenings, theater and debate. Crowded cafe De Balie is located across from Leidseplein. To relax, watch street artists perform or order comedy tickets (in English) at one of the nearby theatres. Music lovers should not miss the famous nightclubs Paradiso and Melkweg. These local venues also host a variety of concerts and cultural events. Visit these clubs' websites for current show schedules and to book tickets in advance.

At the new Gothic red-brick Stadsschouwburg building, which stands out on the square, there are many shows suitable for all audiences. Dutch plays are often subtitled, displayed on digital screens with English translations. Nearby is the ornate fountain, bar and restaurant of the Amsterdam American Hotel, an art deco National Monument. A two-minute walk away is Max Euweplein, a fine arts square with a large chess board. Here you will find Hard Rock Café with a cute terrace overlooking the canal and the Dutch Casino.

Leidseplein is located southwest of the Canal Ring and is easily accessible by public transport, even late at night. The square can be reached on foot from Vondelpark. If you're driving, you can park your car at one of the transit parking lots on the outskirts of the city and then use public transport to get around. There are several parking lots in the city center but space is limited.

Many pubs close at midnight, but clubs are open most of the night.
