"Wat Chalong is a Buddhist temple and also a historical landmark in Phuket's Chalong Bay. For centuries, locals used to come to the temple to pray while tourists came to learn about Buddha. The official name of the temple is Wat Chaitararam, but most people call it Wat Chalong."

Wat Chalong is Phuket's largest temple, built in the early 19th century. The temple is located on Chao Fa West Road to the north of Tambol Chalong.

Locals and many visitors often come to the temple to pray and pay their respects to some of the famous monks who founded Wat Chalong. Among them were Luang Poh Cham and Luang Poh Chuang, two monks who led the people of Chalong Sub district against the Chinese uprising in 1876. These two monks were both knowledgeable. of medicine and herbal medicine that healed the wounded. Currently in the temple there are two gilded statues of these two monks.

The most prominent structure on the grounds of Wat Chalong is a 60-meter-high Stupa that shelters a fragment of the Buddha's bones. Walls and ceilings are decorated with beautiful paintings illustrating the life of Buddha. There are also many donated gold statues. The Wat Chalong stupa has three floors, so feel free to climb up to the top floor terrace to see the entire temple grounds. On the top floor you will also see a glass screen where the bone fragment can be admired.

The most important Buddha statue in Wat Chalong is Poh Than Jao Wat, located in an ancient location on the west side of the temple. There is also an air-conditioned exhibition hall in Wat Chalong, which displays lifelike wax models of Luang Poh Cham, Luang Poh Chuang, Luang Poh Gleum and Luang Pu Thuad, along with antique furniture from Thailand and Benjarong porcelain.
