The fountain, full name Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain, was a gift from the Buckingham family to the city. The tower was built in 1927 in Art Deco style and inspired by the fountains at Versailles castle, France with four corners decorated with 4 seahorses, symbolizing the 4 states bordering Lake Michigan. .
Every hour, from 8:00 to 23:00 every day, from May to October, the fountain will come alive and impressive with a water show, which is sprayed from nearly 200 faucets, with music and lights. The central nozzle can spray up to 150 ft (more than 45m).
The fountain is located at the heart of Grant Park, a large public space in Chicago with many other attractions and small parks.
