Phuket Floating Restaurants

"Phuket's floating restaurants (krachang in Thai) are an interesting place to enjoy fresh seafood dishes with an open ocean atmosphere. These restaurants are mainly located on the east coast of the island. Phuket and you will have to take some time to stop traveling by boat from Laem Hin Pier to get to the restaurants."

Floating restaurants in Phuket are usually owned by local fish farmers, although they also often buy raw seafood from other fishermen. Here, you will see a lot of fish, crabs, shrimp... in wooden crates or in floating nets. All you have to do is walk along the boards between the crates and choose what seafood you want to enjoy.

A must-try at Phuket floating restaurant is fresh oysters served with chili, garlic, lemon and herbs. You can also order classic Thai seafood dishes such as fried crab with black pepper, fried shrimp with tamarind sauce, grouper sour soup, fried crab meat with yellow curry powder.

While waiting for the food to be prepared, you can walk around the raft houses to visit and learn about the fisherman's rafts. It won't be too surprising if you come across leopard sharks, blowfish, field eels or mantis shrimp.

There are many floating restaurants concentrated in this same area of which the two most famous restaurants in Phuket are Kru Suwit's and Bang Mud Laem Hin. Most of these restaurants do not serve alcohol, but you can bring your own. The best time to go experience floating restaurants is around 5pm when the weather is cool.
