Tu Buoi Pottery Village, located in Ward 5, Vinh Long City, is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves and wants to explore traditional pottery art. This unique establishment was founded by Nguyen Van Buoi (known locally as Uncle Tu Buoi), a passionate ceramic artist with over 30 years of experience in the craft. He has transformed his house into a lively museum of Southern Vietnamese pottery.

Bold Vision Behind Tu Buoi Pottery Village

Mr. Nguyen Van Buoi, the owner of this distinctive pottery house, has a deep passion and love for traditional pottery. Born into a family of potters in Vinh Long, he learned the craft at a young age and has remained dedicated to it throughout his life. The idea of creating Tu Buoi Pottery Village began in 2009, with the goal of creating a space to showcase exceptional ceramic products and raise awareness of Vinh Long’s pottery heritage.

However, due to various reasons, the project was delayed for some time. After witnessing the decline of the traditional pottery village in his homeland, he decided to bring his vision to life. Tu Buoi Pottery Village is not just an architectural wonder, with interiors crafted entirely from ceramics, but it is also designed in the traditional Southern Vietnamese style, offering a welcoming and familiar atmosphere to visitors.

Exploring the Unique Architecture

From a distance, Tu Buoi Pottery Village can be recognized by the natural red color of the ceramics and the traditional three-compartment house design typical of the Southern people. The house is adorned with vibrant ceramic murals and decorated gates and fences, showcasing patterns that reflect the life and culture of the Mekong Delta. Passing through the gate, you are welcomed by two friendly buffalo statues. The courtyard is like a living picture, featuring details such as ox carts, haystacks, and simple yet authentic representations of life in the water-based Southern countryside.

Discover the Interior of the House

Inside the pottery house, you will find an impressive collection of antique items, such as old French irons, German springs, Vietnamese balance scales, and unusual oil lamps, gas lamps, and mang (traditional lamps), all designed in unique styles. These items will transport you back in time, evoking memories of the past and the beauty of the subsidy era in Vietnam. The overall atmosphere will make you feel like you've stepped into a living history museum of the Southern region.
