These beautiful works of art revive a once dull wall in a street on the edge of the bustling Old Town, turning it into a lively and interactive attraction.
Phung Hung Street in Hanoi's Old Quarter seems to be revived with beautiful mural paintings reminiscent of old Hanoi. Opened to the public in early February 2018, it is now a favorite photography spot and cultural space for city dwellers and visitors to Hanoi.
Vietnamese and Korean artists participated in a community art exchange project initiated in November 2017 by painting murals depicting the old Hanoi space on the walls along Phung Hung Street. 200 m long.
The paintings depict the memories of Hanoi and the old features still linger in the minds of Hanoians: Hang Ma Street during the Mid-Autumn Festival, Trang Tien Department Store, a street corner in the Old Quarter with the street vendors and a schoolgirl on the way to school. Contemporary art is also displayed on the streets for the first time, not only drawings but also other mediums such as photography, 3D paintings, carvings and interactive games.
The murals on Phung Hung Street highlight the cultural values and good traditions of Hanoi's thousand years of civilization. Phung Hung used to be a street selling motorbikes. Old motorbikes and public faucets lined up to bring people back to Hanoi during the subsidy period. Painter repainted: “The murals remind people of past activities in Phung Hung Street and other areas of Hanoi. Community art is associated with Hanoi's landscape and awakens memories of Hanoi. "
Since its debut, mural street has attracted a large number of tourists. The murals on Phung Hung Street recall the old features of Hanoi. They are so attractive to Hanoi lovers who come to rediscover their childhood memories.
Phung Hung mural street is not only a place to visit and take pictures. This is also an entertainment space with painting experiences and folk games. Paintings and activities on Phung Hung Street help preserve and promote Hanoi's heritages, and allow locals and visitors to learn more about Hanoi's culture.
