Fleetinsel

In the middle of the city of Hamburg there is an island. Nestled between Bleichenfleet, Herrengrabenfleet and the Alsterfleet canal lies Fleetinsel. The “urban island” runs through the district of Neustadt from Binnenalster to Elbe. Fleetinsel begins right between the Rödingsmarkt and St. Michael. Beautifully landscaped and covered with water, the island is home to many new restaurants and cafes, as well as galleries and shops, inviting locals and visitors to wander around, linger river side. In winter, the Christmas market here is always crowded with families, young people and tourists, it has a special maritime atmosphere with its location near the port, but still very warm and friendly.

Architecturally, Fleetinsel is quite unique. Some of its buildings were destroyed during World War II and replaced with new ones, leaving an interesting mix of historic and modern Hamburg-style buildings visible between the canals. dig.

Best of all, Fleetinsel is located just around the corner from many of Hamburg's main attractions. Following the island in the direction of the river Elbe will take you to Bäumenall and from there to the harbor and pier Landungsbrücken. Fleetinsel is also very close to both the Speicherstadt and the modern architecture of HafenCity . Walking in the direction of the city center will bring you to the neoclassical town hall and the Jungfernstieg. Church of St. Michael , or "Michel" as the locals call it, is also nearby; and Großneumarkt with many cafes, restaurants and shopping opportunities.

One of the few streets on the narrow Fleetinsel perhaps better known than the island on which it sits – the Neuer Wall, running from the northern end of Fleetinsel to the Stadthausbrücke station, is a popular spot in Hamburg for luxury shopping. Top designers and brands have their stores on this chic and exclusive street where celebrities are often spotted.
