Profile
Today, there are many kitchens in Budapest serving modern versions of classic Hungarian dishes. In 2004, however, Bock Bisztró was one of the first restaurants to push the boundaries of traditional Hungarian cuisine: executive chef Lajos Báró, a pioneer of the movement, showed the world thoroughly Contemporary cooking, top ingredients with a touch of daring can bring local favorites into the 21st century. The restaurant gets its name from Biró's collaboration with József Bock, a wine producer. in the southern region of Villány, which is known for its famous red wines.
Bock Bisztró is located in a classic building connected to the Corinthia hotel. The restaurant has a not-so-sophisticated interior design with a large wine bar, brown wooden tables and chairs, and decent white-shirted waiters. However, a special feature of the decoration at Bock Bisztró is probably their dining tables. At first glance, they look like normal glass-lined wooden tables, but when you look closely, diners will see in the bottom of the table under the glass are cork from neatly arranged local wine bottles, creating a The feeling of plates of food as being served on a special cork table.
Diners can expect a delicious wine selection here, including more than two dozen wines from Bock's main winery. The rest of the wine list comes from other local Hungarian producers. The best way to start a meal at Bock Bisztró is with a few Hungarian-style tapas, or a plate of mixed local charcuterie.
The menu at the restaurant changes frequently and always features interesting flavor combinations (such as risotto with poppy seeds and calamari) or new modernized traditional dishes. Bock's "Big Beef Burger" has become a much-loved dish, and so has "retro-style beef cheek". The menu includes traditional Hungarian dishes such as venison stew with porcini, chicken papriká with pasta made with curd cheese. The crunchy crunch of celery root lends a freshness to goulash soup, and paprikash is also great when wrapped in a delicate pastry crust. Exotic ice-creams, which sometimes include tobacco, or kapros tuiró lepény (curd cheese and fennel cake) are an ideal way to end a delicious meal.
Live accordions in the evening always make diners want to linger a little longer to enjoy an extra glass of wine. Bock Bisztró Restaurant has also expanded to include a location in Buda and another location in Lake Balaton.
