Dong Loc Junction Youth Volunteer Memorial Site

The Dong Loc historical site was recognized as a National Historic Site in 1989. The Communist Youth Union, the Party, the Government, and the people of Ha Tinh have invested in developing this site into a national memorial for Youth Volunteers. On December 9, 2013, the Prime Minister officially recognized Dong Loc Junction as a Special National Historical Site, located along the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail.

History and War

From 1964 to 1972, National Highway 1A through Ha Tinh suffered severe destruction, forcing all traffic from the North to the South to use Road 15A. Dong Loc Junction became a vital point on this route, acting as the ""throat"" connecting the Northern rear to the Southern front lines.

Due to its strategic location, Dong Loc Junction faced continuous bombardment. In 1968 alone, it endured nearly 50,000 bombs, averaging more than three bombs per square meter. The area was left desolate, devoid of any trees or grass.

Here, many forces, including soldiers, youth volunteers, and militia fighters, banded together, with the total number of participants reaching 16,000. Their mission was to maintain traffic safety, clear bomb craters, and ensure the safety of people and goods transported to the Southern battlefield.

Notably, the 10 young female Youth Volunteers from Team 4, Company 552, heroically sacrificed their lives on July 24, 1968, when a bomb fell near their shelter. Their sacrifice at such a young age has left a profound emotional impact on future generations.
