Xi'an Ancient Temple

Located on Sam mountain, Chau Doc town, An Giang province, Tay An Co Tu is one of the ancient temples with architecture that is a combination of Hindu art with Vietnamese national colors.

Xi'an Ancient Temple was built in 1847, the pagoda has undergone many renovations and embellishments. In 1958, the pagoda was comprehensively upgraded with a total area of ​​15,000 square meters.

The pagoda is built with durable materials such as bricks, tiles, cement, etc. The facade of the temple is designed in Indian architectural style with colorful onion-shaped round roofs. However, the designs inside the pagoda are basically still in the style of traditional Vietnamese Buddhist temple architecture.

In the campus of Xi'an Co Tu, there are two large elephant statues, a black elephant with two tusks and a white elephant with six tusks. The white elephant reminds of the old story of Queen Maya dreaming of a six-tusk white elephant carrying a Bodhisattva on her back and then giving birth to Prince Siddhartha, ie Buddha Shakyamuni. Black elephant with two tusks named O Long, the elephant sacrificed heroically when fighting to protect national independence.

The main hall of Tay An pagoda is a large row of houses with two floors of roofs, roofed with large pipes, wooden pillars, and tiled floors. The two sides are the gong floor and the quadrangle drum floor, the top of which is decorated with artistic statues of the four spirits (long, unicorn, qui, phoenix). Inside the main hall there are more than 200 wooden statues, each of which shows a different Buddhist philosophical attitude and has high artistic value. Besides, this place also has many finely carved gilded, gilded and lacquered paintings and parallel sentences carved by artisans of An Giang and Dong Thap craft villages since the 19th century.

From the main hall, visitors can visit Dai Hong communal house in the bell tower area. This Dai Hong Chung was carved in the 32nd year of King Tu Duc's reign (1879), so far it has been more than 140 years, but the sound of the bell is still the same when it was first carved.

In addition, behind the pagoda, there are a number of stupa tombs, the most special of which is the tomb of Buddha Thay Tay An, known as Doan Minh Huyen, who is a progressive Buddhist monk, admired by everyone. of virtue and talent. Every year, on the 12th day of the 8th lunar month, thousands of people and Buddhist monks and nuns inside and outside the region come here to worship in large numbers.

The majesty and sacredness of Xi'an Ancient Temple has become an invisible force, attracting a large number of monks and pilgrims from all over the world. Tay An Pagoda, not only has the value of unique ancient architectural art, but also a place to keep many cultural values ​​- good beliefs, associated with the reclamation and establishment of hamlets of the ancient An Giang people. .

On December 6, 1989, the Ministry of Culture and Information officially classified Xi'an Ancient Temple as a national historical relic.
