Profile
Tan Ky ancient house was built at the end of the 18th century in 1741, so far for more than 200 years, where 7 generations of the Le family lived. In the second generation, they took the name Tan Ky to do business and trade in agricultural products. The front of the house opens to Nguyen Thai Hoc street for convenient trading, the back side opens to the riverside, on Bach Dang street to serve the import of goods.
Tan Ky ancient house was built with the typical tubular architecture of houses in the old town, divided into 3 compartments with different functions and without windows, the only place to receive light is a courtyard. The small is called a skylight. Wood is the main material used to build the house, besides auxiliary materials such as stone and bricks. The motifs, patterns with many meanings, messages and Oriental philosophies on the columns and walls of the ancient house are made by the most skillful artisans in the famous Kim Bong carpentry village in Quang Ninh. Male.
A special feature in the building structure of the house is that no nails are used, all panels and wooden bars inside the old house are attached together by joints. It is this feature that helps the house become solid, almost intact after a long time.
In addition to the ancient architectural features, Tan Ky ancient house also preserves a number of horizontal and contrasting paintings, some of which have great artistic value such as "Titus Duc Luu Ton" which means teach children and grandchildren to keep good virtue for the next generation and "Frequent mind" with the intention of reminding everyone to keep their mind at peace. The set of "Bach Dieu" is written in 100 strokes with each stroke a bird in flight, is an artifact highly appreciated by archaeologists, considered unique.
Among the many antiques that the ancient house is keeping, the most valuable is still the "Confucius Cup" with a lifespan of more than 600 years, bought by the Le family from Chinese merchants. The cup can only hold water in the middle, carrying the advice of Confucius in the Middle theory that: people must know how to control their behavior, keep themselves in a neutral state, not excessive.
In the space behind the old house are milestones recording the great floods that took place in this place. At the same time, this is also a place to sell souvenir products for visitors to visit.
Tan Ky ancient house is the first ancient house to be honored as a national historical and cultural relic in 1990 and has been recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage.
