Quais du Polar is a literary and artistic event that takes place every April in the city of Lyon. Founded in 2005, this festival invites hundreds of authors and filmmakers each year to come and meet a wide range of readers, who may be crime fiction fans or just curious. The festival includes reading, novels, comics, games, exhibitions and mysterious adventures around different locations in the city.
Over the course of three days, more than fifty events are organized including debates, meetings, concerts, plays, and screenings of crime films selected by the authors themselves. Since its inception, the festival has welcomed acclaimed novelists and masters of the genre such as Tonino Benacquista, Harlan Coben, Jo Nesbo and James Ellroy.
Conferences and debates mainly take place at the town hall, the Amphi at the Opera and the Palais de la Bourse. Open to everyone, the festival is completely free, with the exception of movie screenings and some shows. Games at the carnival sometimes allow participants to participate in investigations while taking on the role of a detective.
