Because of the remote location, the roads are not convenient, so Ngoi Hoa village can only be reached by boat. But because of that, this place still retains a quiet peace before the impacts of development. Ngoi Hoa is home to about 80 Muong ethnic families whose ancestors have struggled for a living hundreds of years by picking, hunting and farming year-round on the mountain slopes. Today, they earn their living mainly by farming and fishing on Hoa Binh Lake, forestry and tourism with a better standard of living. They make use of the surrounding land to grow acacia and bamboo, along with fruit trees such as melons, papayas, bananas, gourds and especially orchids. There are about 300 species of orchids in Hoa Binh lake and Ngoi Hoa commune. Local people have also built dozens of stilt houses to serve tourists.
The village is located on the banks of Ngoi Hoa Bay of Hoa Binh Lake, which is covered by thousands of hectares of sparkling water. The rocky islands full of luxuriant trees spread across the lake. Standing in the houses on stilts, visitors can enjoy the wind, watch the sunrise, watch the moon reflect on the lake and listen to the sound of fish underwater, a picturesque space like no other.
