“A beautiful green space in the city of Stuttgart, with green lawns stretching to the horizon, interrupted only by patches of brilliant flowers and great old trees. The park welcomes everyone with relaxing cafes, beer gardens and many great places to sit and watch people, animals and nature.”

Höhenpark Killesberg is a half square kilometer (123 acres) urban public park in Stuttgart. It is located just north of the state capital, where Killesberg is a quarter of the Stuttgart-Nord district (north). The park dates back to the 1939 horticulture exhibition. Before the exhibition, a large area of the park was once a quarry. It was converted into a park with exhibition venues for the show, and still regularly hosts horticultural events, including the “Bundesgartenschau” and the IGA (Internationale Gartenbauausstellung), both garden festivals. Killesbergpark was adjacent to the city's fairgrounds for many years.

Every July, the park hosts the famous Stuttgart Festival of Lights. Thousands of lanterns are placed around the park, decorating the park for a variety of family activities throughout. After dark, there is a fireworks show accompanied by music. Visitors often bring blankets to sit on while watching the show.

One of the main attractions at Höhenpark Killesberg is the Killesberg railway. Since opening, the park has been home to the 381 mm (15 in) narrow gauge Killesberg railway. In the summer months, visitors can see two diesel locomotives and two steam locomotives, which have been permanently installed in the park since 1950. The 1939 horticultural exhibition saw the opening of the route railway, when two steam engines borrowed from Leipzig crossed a short distance. During World War II, the steam engines were returned to Leipzig for use there. New locomotives were purchased, and today two diesel and three steam engines are in use.

In addition to the railway, the Höhenpark Killesberg offers excellent children's play areas, a petting zoo, an opening swimming pool, a children's theater and delicious dining options.

For adults, Höhenpark Killesberg is especially known for its vibrant flowers. In spring, families can marvel at the colorful primrose blooms. In summer, flowers bloom everywhere, especially on the lake beds. In the fall, visitors can briefly see the dahlias at their best, and even in winter, the ericas make this park an ideal place for a stroll. The Valley of the Roses (Tal der Rosen) is also a favorite flower garden.
