Hien Lam Cac

Hien Lam Cac is located on Hai Muoi Ba Thang Tam Street, Phu Hau Ward, Hue City, Thua Thien Hue Province. This is one of the architectural works within the Complex of Hue Monuments, built in 1821 and completed in 1822 during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang, along with The Mieu. Hien Lam Cac is located in the temple area of ​​the Imperial City, standing 17 meters high and being the tallest architectural structure in this area. It serves as a memorial tower to honor the achievements of the Nguyen Dynasty emperors and the distinguished mandarins.

Distinctive Architecture

Hien Lam Cac is a three-story wooden structure built on a high rectangular platform, paved with Bat Trang tiles and decorated with embossed porcelain shards. The platform is accessed by two systems of nine stone steps at the front and back. The sides of the steps are adorned with dragon carvings, with a central path reserved for the emperor.

First Floor: It has five compartments, showcasing intricate carvings of dragons, flowers, and leaves. The structural beams, crossbars, and panels are adorned with stylized dragon motifs. Above the central door hangs a large signboard with the inscription “Hien Lam Cac” in gold on a green background, framed by nine dragons playing in the clouds. The wooden staircase leading to the second floor is a valuable piece of art, with handrails decorated with longevity, swastika symbols, and geometric patterns.

Second Floor: Divided into three compartments, previously housing the royal desk and bed. The front and back walls feature shuttered windows, while the sides are paneled, surrounded by a wooden balustrade. The support system for the roof is intricately carved.

Third Floor: Comprising only one compartment, accessed by a nine-step wooden staircase. The front and back walls have shuttered windows. The topmost part houses a yellow enamel wine jar placed on a five-colored enamel cloud.
