Ba Om Pond

Ba Om pond has an area of about 39,000 square meters and is surrounded by ancient trees over a hundred years old, is one of the most famous attractions in Tra Vinh.

Ba Om pond is about 7km southwest of Tra Vinh province, the pond is about 500m long and about 300m wide, so the pond is shaped like a square, that's why people also call the pond a pond. Vuong (Square Pond). Because it is surrounded by large old trees, shading all year round, the atmosphere here is quite pleasant, when coming here, visitors will have a feeling of comfort and relaxation.

There are many legends about the formation of Ba Om pond, but the most popular is still the legend about the pond digging contest of men and women in the region. The story is that at that time, men and women wanted to get married, but neither side wanted to propose because the suitor would have to bear all the costs of the wedding. One day, when the villagers ran out of water to use because of the drought, they came up with the idea of organizing a pond digging contest for men and women in the village. Accordingly, the two teams have to dig a pond from dusk until the morning star appears, whichever side can dig a larger and deeper pond will be the winner. Mrs. Om led all the women in the village to win this contest by getting drunk on the village's men and using a lamp to make people think that the morning star had risen, so she did not continue to dig the pond. Because he was too confident and looked down on his opponent, the men in the village lost and accepted to propose to the woman as well as pay all the costs of the wedding procedure. Since then, the pond that the women in the village dug has also been called Ba Om pond.

Every year, the area around Ba Om pond is the place where many traditional Khmer festivals take place such as Chon-chnam-thmay, Sen Don ta, Ok-om-bok, etc. The water inside the pond is always calm and clear. . The outside of the pond is surrounded by sand dunes and old trees whose roots protrude from the ground creating many strange shapes. Some large tree roots form caves that children can play in, while some have benches where people can sit and rest.

Tra Vinh people still call Ba Om pond the second Da Lat because of the peaceful scenery, rare fresh air, visitors can come here to immerse themselves in the green nature, enjoy the pleasant atmosphere, away from the dust, daily noise of the city.
