Alsterhaus
“Jungfernstieg's most iconic department store has captivated shoppers for more than a century with five floors filled with luxury goods and exquisite services"
When the Hermann Tietz department store opened on April 24, 1912, it became known throughout the city. The former Tietz store excited the people of Hamburg with its dazzling beauty and wide range of products. Its high quality standards have stood for more than 100 years and was renamed Alsterhaus in 1936.
Today, the Alsterhaus in Hamburg covers an area of 24,000 square meters in an exclusive atmosphere that includes a historic structure and modern interior design; during the improvement process that started in 2016, once again taking on a completely new structure. Locals and visitors on arrival at the Alsterhaus will be presented with an exquisite blend of designer fashion, beauty, top-of-the-line home products and more spread over six floors.
During renovations in 2016, designed by Kleihues & Kleihues, the Luxury Hall on the ground floor was restored to its former glory. Atrium hosts a selection of the best brands since the Alsterhaus first opened more than 100 years ago: bags and accessories from international designer brands, as well as watches, jewelry and gift shopping epitomize modern luxury at this age-old boutique. The interior of Accessories Hall was designed by Sebastian Herkner, whose name brings to mind contemporary design art. His creations embody a motto that shopping must also include an aesthetic experience that is in keeping with the times.
The fourth floor is a place that attracts curious and discerning guests. They can rest their feet while shopping at Elbgold cafe, visit the “burger pop” at “Burgermeister”, Hamburg the Butcher or a dinner at Yoshi Japanese restaurant, with a view of Binnenalster. Alsterhaus Food World offers something for everyone – from the traditional to the unconventional.
