Profile
The park is located next to the Qutub Minar World Heritage Site and also the Qutub complex. Walking around this park is very interesting as it holds more than one hundred historical sites and is also one of the oldest areas in Delhi. Inspired by the Indo-Islamic architectural style, the park's monuments combine intricate stonework with intricate masonry. Nestled in the heart of the Aravali Mountains, Mughal architecture stands as tall as the surrounding peaks.
This park can also be considered as one of the architectural ruins of some well known rulers such as Tughlaq Dynasty, Khilji Dynasty, Lodhi Dynasty, rulers of Mughal empire, Delhi Sultanate and also UK. There are also some wonderful sites here such as Balban's Tomb, Jamali Kamali Mosque and Tomb, Gandhak Stepwell, Quli Khan's Tomb, Rajon Stepwell, and more. Scattered throughout the park are the remains of several temples that existed before. Summarizing the remarkable success of the architectural works of the bygone era, these temple vestiges are imbued with the national identity of that time. With an array of ornate carvings adorning the earthen walls, the park embodies the heterogeneous nature of the many faces of Indian society.
Along with housing many of the most prized monuments of the Middle Ages, the park is home to a wide variety of plants and trees that add to its natural charm. Before the research of bird watchers, they discovered that some rare birds also reside on the trees in the park. Trees surround a beautiful lake providing guests with mesmerizing sunsets.
The Mehrauli Archaeological Park is home to many schools in the area, as well as a place for family picnics on weekends.
