Nhat Tru Pagoda is located in Truong Yen commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province, 300m north of King Le Dai Hanh temple.
Nhat Tru Pagoda, also known as One Pillar Pagoda, is one of the famous pagodas that has been ranked as a national monument. Located in the complex of Hoa Lu ancient capital in Truong Yen commune with Yen Thanh temple, princess temple and King Le Dai Hanh temple, the pagoda is a relic of historical value and unique artistic architecture of Vietnam. Hoa Lu ancient capital and also one of the tourist attractions in Ninh Binh.
The pagoda is located on an area of more than 3,000m2, with architectural items including the main pagoda arranged in Dinh font including Tien Duong (main hall), Thuong Dien (Buddhist church), ancestral church. , guest house, tower and auxiliary works.
The temple gate is built on the right side of the pagoda with 2 roofs. The outside of the pagoda is engraved with three Chinese characters "Nhat Tru Tu" (One Pillar Pagoda). The main hall has many details carved in the shape of leaves, clouds or the word "tho" (壽) in a circular shape, bearing the imprint of the Nguyen Dynasty.
The three-chambered Buddha church connected to the main foyer has a similar structure. This is the space of Buddha statues in the temple with statues such as Tam The, Tam Ton, Avalokitesvara, Quan Am on the mountain, Buddha Ba ....
The temple's antiques are quite rich, but the highlight is the bronze bell cast in 1799 with the humanistic teaching of Buddhism: "Doing good will meet a hundred good things... Good people are always blessed, this is the rule. Cause and Effect. and effects”. Particularly in the system of relics of the pagoda, there are Thach Kinh or Buddha columns in the front yard of the temple.
If you happen to visit Hoa Lu Tam Coc, you should not miss the opportunity to admire the unique Nhat Tru pillar. In Buddhist terms, it is called the Lang Nghiem, which is similar to the Dinh Lien Buddhist pillar on the banks of the Hoang Long River. The difference is that the column of Nhat Tru Pagoda is much larger in size, on the other hand has a lotus wreath around the column, and Dinh Lien's column has no decorative details. Nhat Tru Pagoda's pillar has an octagonal shape of 4.16m high, consisting of 6 parts joined together by trusses including square base, round base, octagonal body, octagonal flower and gourd top.
All parts are attached together without any adhesive but very stable after thousands of years. According to records of Nhat Tru Pagoda, the square base has a rectangular shape approximately 140cm long, 30cm thick; The round hole in the middle is 29cm in diameter, 55cm deep.
Today, the pagoda is a place of cultural and spiritual activities, an integral part of the complex of Hoa Lu ancient capital.
The pagoda is also a relic marking many historical events that contributed to the victory of our people in the resistance wars against the French and the Americans to save the country. Currently, Nhat Tru Pagoda is still a spiritual place for people in the village and tourists from all over the world, where interesting festivals take place. Every year, on January 15, the pagoda holds a ceremony to pray for peace for the nation and the people. With those values, the pagoda was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information in 1998.
