Profile
The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) is a national institution dedicated to contemporary art in Ireland, located in Kilmainham, Dublin and housed within the Royal Kilmainham Hospital.
Originally, the museum was a 17th-century building built as a home for retired soldiers.
Today, the museum has a collection of more than 2,500 works of art spanning from the early 20th century to the present day. IMMA's collection is particularly strong in Irish and international contemporary art, with works by artists such as Francis Bacon, Louis le Brocquy and Jack B. Yeats. The museum also has a strong focus on emerging artists and regularly showcases the work of rising talent.
IMMA has a number of exhibitions on display year-round, with a mix of group and individual contemporary art performances, showcasing Irish and international artists. The museum also has a wide range of temporary exhibitions, curated programs and projects, and hosts a residency program that gives artists the chance to work in the museum's studio.
In addition, the museum also has a large sculpture park displaying works by international artists, including sculptures by Henry Moore, Tony Oursler and Jean Dubuffet.
In parallel with the exhibitions, IMMA also offers a range of educational and community programs such as lectures, tours, workshops and family activities. Visitors can also explore the museum's gift shop, which offers a wide range of art-related products, including books, postcards and souvenirs.
