UNESCO officially recognized Cat Ba archipelago as a world biosphere reserve on October 29, 2004 including Cat Ba National Park. This national park covers an area of 15,200 ha, of which 800 ha is primary forest. The flora and fauna in the forest is very diverse, it is estimated that there are 20 species of mammals, 69 species of birds, 20 species of reptiles and amphibians. The flora has 495 genera, 149 families, including 250 species of medicinal plants. It is this diversity that makes Cat Ba National Park always a destination that attracts many tourists to come here to explore and learn about the natural world. The ideal time to visit this national park is in the summer or autumn, this time is very suitable for hiking, climbing…. The national park is 14km from Cat Ba center, you can go here by motorbike or car. After buying tickets to visit, you can choose one of 5 routes, depending on the means of transport and the places you want to visit to explore, the routes are divided by time as follows:
– Long routes, visiting time from 4 to 8 hours for walking and climbing activities include: Ao Ech - Viet Hai route; Route May Bau - Hang Quan Y; Kim Giao - Me Con - Tung Di route.
– Short routes, visiting time from 2-3 hours for motorbikes, bicycles, cars, walking, climbing include: Kim Giao Forest Route - Ngu Lam Peak, Environmental Education; Trung Trang Cave - Communal Cave.
