Profile
Discovered in 1974 by local farmers digging a well, the Terracotta Army stunned the world with over 8,000 life-sized soldiers, horses, and chariots – all crafted from clay over 2,000 years ago.
Commissioned by Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor to unify China, this vast underground army was built to protect his mausoleum. Each soldier has unique facial features, hairstyles, and postures, showcasing the masterful craftsmanship of the Qin artisans.
Walking into the excavation pits, you’ll feel as though time has frozen. Pits 1, 2, and 3 display different military formations – from infantry and cavalry to generals – all arranged in strategic order.
More than just a relic, the site functions as a living museum where visitors can freely explore and immerse themselves in the vivid history without being bound to a fixed route.
Xi’an is centrally located and well-connected by air and high-speed rail. Besides the Terracotta Army, don’t miss Xi’an City Wall, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, or the bustling Muslim Quarter – where Eastern charm meets Islamic culture.
Combining historical exploration with local culinary experiences makes for a rich and fulfilling journey – one that’s both independent and deeply cultural.
