Banaras Hindu University

BHU was established with the aim of solving India's poverty and the lower income of Indians compared to Europeans, by focusing on technology and science, applied in the national interest. as well as Indian religion and culture. Covering an area of ​​over 500 hectares, the main campus is located near the banks of the Ganges River, on the southern edge of Varanasi. The semicircular layout bears the hallmarks of early 20th-century Indo-Gothic architecture.

There are over 60 student residence halls available, as well as housing for full-time faculty. The university also has a temple complex called Shri Vishwanath Mandir over 76 meters high in the center of the campus, which took nearly three decades to complete. There is also the Bharat Kala Bhavan art and archeology museum most famous for its Indian paintings, although it also includes archaeological artifacts, textiles, costumes and more.

Also on campus is the largest university referral hospital in the region, Sir Sunderial Hospital, which is affiliated with BHU's Institute of Health Sciences. Rajiv Gandhi South campus is more than 1,090 m wide in Barkachha, Mirzapur, about 60 km from Banaras, with Agricultural Science Center. BHU has many distinguished alumni and faculty, including the author of Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Robert M. Pirsig, who studied Eastern philosophy and culture there. One of the administrators of the BHU, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, has become the President of India.
