Luce Memorial Chapel
The Luce Memorial Chapel is a unique structure located on the campus of Tunghai University. The Luce Memorial Chapel is a delicate collaboration of IM Pe and Chen Chi-Kwan, a local artist and architect, in honor of Reverend Henry W. Luce, an American missionary who went to China. Mainland in the late 19th century, he was also the father of the publisher Henry W. Luce.
The construction project of the Luce memorial house was sketched out in mid-1954, but construction began in late 1962 and was completed at the end of 1963. The walls are made of solid reinforced concrete, inside the chapel is a diamond-shaped glazed brick that is extremely monumental and sophisticated. The walls appear to be independent, unrelated to each other but are in fact delicately connected by enameled slots and small sized wires.
