Profile
Perched high above the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rose Garten offers a lovely view of the old town of Bern with all its sights and attractions. When the weather is clear, the view extends far beyond the city to the local mountain Gurten, and all the way to the Alps.
Despite the name Rose Garden, the flower garden is also known for its variety of flowers. More than 400 varieties of roses and irises as well as 28 different azaleas bloom throughout the park. An enchanting water lily lake with fountains and large green areas give the park a relaxing airy feel.
In spring, Japanese cherry blossoms in full bloom are a special sight at Rose Garden. Around the end of March and the beginning of April, these flowering trees from the land of the sun bring a new beauty to the city. Six months after autumn, their leaves turn color and transport visitors to another vivid sight.
The pavilion with a library and a reading garden next door is an ideal place to relax. Those who want to read a good book while sunbathing can browse the shelves of the open-access library without registration. Rose Garden is also a fun place for locals, tourists and children to run around. The main attraction of the playground is a large red wooden dragon for children to climb, slide and swing under the shady trees.
After a long day of walking, everyone can go to Rosengarten restaurant located at the south gate of the park. It serves delicious cakes, coffee, delicious breakfast and brunch menus at affordable prices and amazing views of Bern Old Town and the Alps.
